Choosing Kitchen Appliances for Your Home | Cap1sucks Home ...

Fridge, stove and other kitchen appliances these days come in a variety of shows ? from elegant retro. And they certainly come with a variety of functions and features. It just makes it harder for you to make decisions when buying for your home, especially when you select the entire series to fill your kitchen. To help you make wise choices, here are some tips that you should consider. Of course, you want every area in your home to look great. However, when you think of the device for your kitchen, it?s wise to always put function over form, if you have to choose between the two. Always check the safety and security features and product durability.

One of the key factors you should think about the energy efficiency of a device. Older models of refrigerators, dishwashers and electric appliances will certainly consume more energy than the latest models are equipped with energy-saving features. If you are faced with choosing between one that is more energy efficient, but the models a bit more expensive and others are cheaper but less in energy efficiency, you must first do the math and see what that will help you in the long run you the cost. Remember, when you buy an appliance, always use the long term.

Another thing that helps is a kitchen appliance has an effective work of the right size for your purposes and for cooking. For example, do not buy a refrigerator that is too big or too small for the food that you usually need to register. Also, make sure you allocate space for your refrigerator to give adequate breathing space. Have the exact size of the tool will also help you to have a more organized home. Stove, for example, is now present in the model table, with the exception of a conventional gas or electric stove and oven combinations that are too big for those living in apartments with minimal space. If you never use the oven, why buy one? You can not have a stove installed table and a microwave oven to heat food.

Many kitchen appliances are now available in models that are not conventional. You do not have to be stuck with a regular refrigerator with the freezer on the top shelf and a door that swung to the side. There are now models that have the freezer on the bottom of the tool that opens by pulling on it like a drawer. Also, if you have an integrated oven, you can install it on a higher level than usual. You will see a roast chicken or a cake is better this way. Cleaning is also easier. Indeed, you have more choices these days when purchasing your Kitchen Essentials. Make sure you know what you need and what suits your home, so you?ll get your money.

Jones III scores 31, Baylor beats Kansas St 82-74

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) ? Suspended by the NCAA right before last year's Big 12 tournament, Perry Jones III seemed in a mood to make up for lost time.

So the 6-foot-11 Baylor sophomore made all eight of his shots in the first half Thursday and wound up with a career-best 31 points while leading the hot-shooting Bears to an 82-74 victory over Kansas State. Jones was 11 for 14 for the game.

"I guess I was just in the zone today," said Jones, who also had 11 rebounds for his eighth double-double in a season that's been a bit of a disappointment. "Just being aggressive and more assertive."

Shortly before the Bears were to board the plane for Kansas City last March, the NCAA suspended Jones because of a mortgage loan his mother had accepted two years earlier. The school vigorously contested the ruling, but it stood, and he eventually had to sit out the first five games of this season as well.

But all that was erased in the finest game of his career. The fourth-seeded Bears (26-6) took charge in the first half when Jones scored 11 straight points. He was 2 for 2 behind the 3-point arc, put down dunks and tap-ins and follow shots.

"It's pleasing because I got my teammates to give me the ball in the right position, my teammates encouraging me to shoot shots I don't normally take," he said. "And they told me to do it like I did it in practice."

The Bears did not let Jones forget what happened last year. When he boarded the plane to come to KC this week, they all gave him a standing ovation.

"My teammates reminded me when I got on the plane," he said with a grin. "But I mean, other than that, it was all laughing and jokes. It wasn't nothing serious."

It wasn't all laughing for the Wildcats (21-10), who had won four of five and appeared to be peaking just in time for the postseason, as they did a year ago.

"We were so bad defensively today," said coach Frank Martin. "Baylor was good. They're a heck of a basketball team. I don't want to take away from them, their moment, because they won the game. But defensively, we were so selfish today. We didn't help each other."

Brady Heslip had 15 points and Pierre Jackson added 13 points and eight assists for Baylor, which shot a sizzling 57 percent while debuting bright, fluorescent yellow uniforms.

"Coaches always want to win and do what you need to do to win," said Baylor coach Scott Drew. "But Perry's one guy I think our whole staff and team really felt good that had a great game."

Even Martin was happy to see Perry get his vindication.

"I told Perry after the game, 'Man, keep being who you are,'" Martin said. "Don't give in to perception and public nonsense. Be who you are, man. He's a beautiful kid and he represents class and he's a very talented player."

Jordan Henriquez, often left unattended in the middle of Baylor's zone defense, scored a career-high 22 points for Kansas State, which had split with Baylor in the regular season.

Jones had 20 points on 8-for-8 shooting as the Bears took a 9-point halftime lead. His first miss was an attempt at a driving layup in the opening minutes of the second half. His second miss was on a shot that was blocked.

Just as the Bears were heading to the tournament last year, the NCAA suspended Jones

The closest Kansas State came in the second half was five points, when Rodney McGruder sank a pair of free throws to make it 53-48. but then A.J. Walton scored an Jackson drove in for a layup and a 57-48 lead that went to 62-50 a few minutes later when Quincy Acy stole the ball at midcourt, drove in for a layup and sank a foul shot when McGruder fouled him.

In the take-charge run in the first half, Jones canned a 3-pointer to put the Bears on top 16-15, then followed that with a tap-in and a three-point play.

Martavious Irving, in the meantime, was on a seven-point run for the Wildcats. Irving's 3-pointer sliced Baylor's six-point lead in half, then Jones, with a nifty feed from Jackson, connected for Baylor.

Henriquez's three-point play pulled Kansas State even at 27-all, then Heslip drove in for a layup, drew a foul and sank the free throw and followed that with a 3-point bucket.

Jackson's left-handed floater in the final seconds sent the Bears into halftime with their biggest lead, 45-36.

McGruder had 14 points for Kansas State and Angel Rodriguez had 12.

Mapping the Moho with GOCE

ScienceDaily (Mar. 9, 2012) ? The first global high-resolution map of the boundary between Earth's crust and mantle -- the Moho -- has been produced based on data from ESA's GOCE gravity satellite. Understanding the Moho will offer new clues into the dynamics of Earth's interior.

Earth's crust is the outermost solid shell of our planet. Even though it makes up less than 1% of the volume of the planet, the crust is exceptionally important not just because we live on it, but because is the place where all our geological resources like natural gas, oil and minerals come from.

The crust and upper mantle is also the place where most geological processes of great importance occur, such as earthquakes, volcanism and orogeny.

Until just a century ago, we didn't know Earth has a crust. In 1909, Croatian seismologist Andrija Mohorovi?i? found that at about 50 km underground there is a sudden change in seismic speed.

Ever since, that boundary between Earth's crust and underlying mantle has been known as the Mohorovi?i? discontinuity, or Moho.

Even today, almost all we know about Earth's deep layers comes from two methods: seismic and gravimetric.

Seismic methods are based on observing changes in the propagation velocity of seismic waves between the crust and mantle.

Gravimetry looks at the gravitational effect due to the density difference caused by the changing composition of crust and mantle.

But the Moho models based on seismic or gravity data are usually limited by poor data coverage or data being only available along single profiles.

The GOCE Exploitation for Moho Modelling and Applications project -- or GEMMA -- has now generated the first global high-resolution map of the boundary between Earth's crust and mantle based on data from the GOCE satellite.

GOCE measures the gravity field and models the geoid with unprecedented accuracy to advance our knowledge of ocean circulation, which plays a crucial role in energy exchanges around the globe, sea-level change and Earth interior processes.

GEMMA's Moho map is based on the inversion of homogenous well-distributed gravimetric data.

For the first time, it is possible to estimate the Moho depth worldwide with unprecedented resolution, as well as in areas where ground data are not available. This will offer new clues for understanding the dynamics of Earth's interior, unmasking the gravitational signal produced by unknown and irregular subsurface density distribution.

GEMMA is being carried out by Italian scientist Daniele Sampietro, and is funded by the Politecnico di Milano and ESA's Support To Science Element under the Changing Earth Science Network initiative.

This initiative supports young scientists at post-doctoral level in ESA Member States to advance our knowledge in Earth system science by exploiting the observational capacity of ESA missions.

World News - Report: Saudi woman dies after campus protest

By msnbc.com

A Saudi Arabian woman died and dozens more were injured after a protest at a university was stormed by stick-wielding police, London's Times newspaper reported on Friday.

Human Rights Watch's Christoph Wilcke told msnbc.com from Germany that he had read in Arabic-language news reports that hundreds of female students from the Arabic literature and education departments of King Khaled University in the southwest of the country were angry at "harsh" treatment by their supervisors and the fact that trash in their departments was not picked up for three days.

Some reports put the number of protesters at 5,000, said Wilcke, a senior researcher at the organization's Middle East and North Africa division for Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Yemen.

One protester died in the hospital of an epileptic seizure and another miscarried her unborn child after the demonstration was broken up, the newspaper reported. (The Times operates behind a pay wall).

Malaysia deports Saudi accused of prophet insult

Videos that Wilcke had seen showed "women shouting, being agitated ... (but) entirely peaceful," he said.

Wilcke estimated that between 50 and 100 members of the religious police were called to the university along with regular police, based on the reports he had seen. Protesters threw shoes as police arrived, the Times reported.

The university promised to investigate the incident, the Times reported.

'Caught up with the world'
While seen by some as a champion of women's rights in the deeply conservative country, Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah "has not made good on any big hopes concretely" since he came to power in 2005," Wilcke said.

Nevertheless, the demonstration and the fact that it was being reported highlighted the "general evolution of Arab society," Wilcke said. A recent protest at a women's prison went virtually unreported, he said.

Amnesty calls Saudi beheading for sorcery 'shocking'

"Here something happened and we heard about it," he said. Wilcke added that it was also significant because of the size and the fact that the women demonstrated openly.

"They stood in the blazing sun and decided to chant for a while," he said. "It means that the Saudis have caught up with the world, they are more aware of their rights ? (but it) doesn't mean that the government has shifted gear."

Fitness and Nutrition Plan ? Who is Isabel De Los Rios? | New ...

Fitness and Nutrition Plan ? Diet Solution ? Introduction

Efforts at browsing the net for fitness and nutrition plans most of the time, lead you to the Diet Solutions Program. This is a fitness and nutrition plan that helps people achieve their weight loss objectives, putting an emphasis on on the dietary and nutritional components of fat loss. It is my aim with this post, to provide a genuine and unprejudiced (but very brief) review of this fitness and nutrition plan, and try to present a convincing enough (I hope) argument on why I do believe that the Diet Solutions Program is perhaps all you need to help send that belly fat packing!

Sure enough, there is absolutely no program that works the exact same way for everyone, because every one of us possess unique characteristics. The Diet Solutions Program does an fantastic job though at ensuring that fat loss goals are met, due to the fact that it is personalized to suit individual weight loss demands and metabolic processes.

Fitness and Nutrition Plan ? Diet Solution ? The Advantages

You will be able to eat nearly as much as you do now. Shaun and Isabel de Los Rios(the creators) of the Diet Solutions Program just point you towards what you need to eat and that which you must not eat, and also the reasons behind this. The dietary program presents you with a customized eating plan, unlike other diet plans that merely toss the program in front of you and let people sought issues out on their own. By going through the program, you have much more of an opportunity to stay lean in the long run. There is practically nothing to keep a watchful eye on or count, no rationing or deprivations. It is really a quite simple system and finds its fundamental strength in the ease of use.

Added to these factors, The Diet Solutions Program has just a few basic principles which are very easy to understand.

Who is Isabel de Los Rios?

Isabel de Los Rios, the creator of the program, is a licensed nutrition expert and coach, so she knows what she?s talking about. A few of her free videos on her site presents you with a taste of what the program has to offer, and also presents you with some guidelines and methods that you most likely had not heard about before now. She stresses all of the myths that you might have learned from other programs, and subsequently presents you with actual details behind weight-loss.

Fitness and Nutrition Plan ? Isabel Del Los Rios ? The Con

Lastly, there is one consistent negative connotation that folks tend to attribute to this fitness and nutrition plan: the truth that this is an ebook rather than an actual, physical text. Personally, I do not mind e-books whatsoever. From time to time I even prefer them. Anyhow, if for some reason you do not like e-books, you can always simply have it printed.

All I can say is that the Diet Solutions Program is a great e book and fitness and nutrition plan. You should download and read a copy for yourself.

Nintendo Wii game controllers help diagnose eye disorder

Thursday, March 8, 2012

Wii remotes are not all about fun and games. Scientists can use them to assess and diagnose children with an abnormal head position caused by eye diseases. As described in a recent Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science article, researchers developed a low-cost digital head posture measuring device with Nintendo Wiimotes to help diagnose this condition, medically called ocular torticollis.

"Torticollis occurs in about 1.3% of children," said author, Jeong-Min Hwang, MD, of Seoul National University College of Medicine. "Accurate measurement of the angle of the abnormal head position is crucial for evaluating disease progression and determining treatment or surgical plans in parties with ocular torticollis."

Hwang and his colleagues point out that in clinical practice where it can be difficult to get reliable data from children whose heads move constantly, a digital head posture measuring systems using electronic devices such as the motion tracking capability offered by Wiimotes would be an ideal alternative.

The researchers used two Wii controllers to develop an infrared optical head tracker (IOHT) that automatically measures and records the angle of the head in real-time. The remotes were connected to a monitoring computer with an infrared camera and Bluetooth connectivity. The IOHT was evaluated for accuracy, validity and reliability by comparing it with the CROM device, one of the most widely used head posture measuring devices in hospitals.

Results demonstrated that in measuring the head posture of normal adult subjects, the measurement of the one-dimensional and three-dimensional (3-D) positions of a human head with IOHT were very close to those of CROM. There were slightly more deviations of measurements between IOHT and CROM than the researchers expected in 3-D movement of the head, which the researchers contribute to the structural nature of CROM rather than inaccurate measurement of IOHT.

In looking at the future, the research team hopes this new tool will play a key role in diagnosing ophthalmic patients. "Considering its high performance, ease of use and low cost, we believe IOHT has the potential to be widely used as a head posture measuring device in clinical practice."

Parenting Fail: Parents Realize They Left Kid at Chuck E. Cheese ...

Chuck E. Cheese was such a madhouse when I was a kid that as fun as it was I hated going there and have still never returned, so I can?t imagine what it must be like for an adult trying to keep track of little three-feet tall maniacs having the time of their lives. Still, I?m going to have to call a parenting fail on Maryland co-parents who didn?t realize they?d left their kid in the play center until her picture showed up on the news.

Parents of a 3-year-old girl had some explaining to do after they forgot their daughter at a?Chuck E Cheese?and did not realize it until they saw her picture on?the evening news.

The girl, named?Harmony, was left behind at the theme restaurant in Bel Air, Md., after she attended a large party with her parents. According to a report from the?Harford County Sheriff?s Office,? both of Harmony?s parents, who share custody, assumed the girl had gone home with other relatives.

A restaurant manager alerted?sheriff?s deputies around 8 p.m. that the girl had been left alone? after Harmony approached a staff member to say? she was thirsty.

Unable to locate the 3-year-old girl?s parents,?the deputies asked local news media to put Harmony?s picture on the evening news.

Once the broadcast aired, both of Harmony?s parents called in and she was released to her mother through Child Protective Services. It?s clear that no one meant any harm but it troubles me that these parents seem so loosey goosey with their co-parenting skills ? ?it?s always necessary to ask yourself the question ?do you know where your children are?? and especially for a three-year-old have a clear answer.

?I?m exhausted,? complained my client Maggy. ?Rick and I are fighting all the time, our 3-year-old is sick, my mom is doing her usual holiday madness? I don?t know how to cope!? Rick gave a depressed but affirmative nod.

?

Sound familiar?

?

Recently I?ve been talking a lot with my couples about practicing what I call ?doggy medicine.? Doggy medicine can apply to almost anyone, regardless of whether you own a dog (or your dog owns you!) or there is no dog in your life.

?

What exactly is ?doggy medicine??

Doggy medicine is a tool I?ve developed to help couples improve the way they interact with each other. Let?s take Maggy and Rick for instance. They can barely make time for themselves let alone each other. It seems that fighting is the main way they currently connect. They are tired and angry and depleted. The following is a dialogue from one of our sessions where I explained to Maggy and Rick how to use doggy medicine to enhance their relationship.

?

?When you come home, who greets you?? I ask Maggy.

?Well, I guess Latte,? says Maggy, wondering where I?m going with this. Latte is Maggy and Rick?s dog.

?Yes, and how does she greet you?? I continued. ?It?s all tails and wags, isn?t it? She makes it really obvious that she is happy to see you. How is that for you??

Maggy smiles. She says softly, ?It?s the best feeling in the world.?

?What happens when Rick gets home?? I ask.

?Well, yesterday I was tired and had a headache. I yelled at him from the other room if he?d remembered to pick up medicine for Lucy (their 3-year-old.) He hadn?t. This really pissed me off. We were fighting within two minutes of him stepping in the door,? Maggy says with a sigh.

?Here is where doggy medicine comes in,? I tell her. ?I want you both to practice greeting each other just like Latte greets you, regardless of what mood you are in and before you say anything to each other about the to-do?s.?

?

What I am advising Maggy and Rick to do is to practice connecting non-verbally, with their eyes and bodies. It could be as simple as looking at each other and giving each other a hug. It can take a second or last a few minutes?it doesn?t have to take a long time. The important thing is that a heartfelt connection is made that is free from judgment and that also affirms their relationship as coming first and foremost before all those to-do?s.

?

?

Simple instructions, but does this work?

?

Research shows that when we are physically close with our partners, whether that is hugging, cuddling or having sex, our bodies are flooded with ?the cuddle hormones,? oxytocin and vasopressin. These hormones tend to turn on reward centers in the brain, flooding us with calm and happiness chemicals like dopamine and turning off stress hormones like cortisol.

?

When is the best time for doggy medicine?

?

I recommend practicing doggy medicine during the four important transition times of the day:

1) When you wake up

2) When you part ways (usually at the beginning of the day)

3) When you reunite (usually at the end of the day)

4) When you go to sleep

?

Outside of these transition moments, doggy medicine can be applied anytime and anywhere. In particular, it is useful during moments of stress. Try it. It might not be your first inclination to ask for a hug when you are stressed and it might even feel very vulnerable, but I guarantee that it will produce much better results than yelling at your partner!

?

Try doggy medicine with your partner and fill your transition times with some cuddle hormones. Oh, and don?t forget to thank your dog (or your neighbor?s dog if you don?t have one) for such great modeling on keeping it simple and staying in connection!
